Port Charlotte PMC:01 is a heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, bottled at 54.5%. It spent more than four years in American first-fill bourbon casks before being moved in 2017 into Pomerol casks from Bordeaux, where it matured for a further five years.
The Port Charlotte single malt is a tribute to the men who worked at the closed Lochindaal distillery, which stood by Loch Indaal and distilled from 1829 to 1929.
The nose has warm peat smoke, red fruit, cooked pears, vanilla, honey, leather and toasted oak, with clove, ginger and marzipan later. The palate is oily and rich, with malt sugar, peat, blackberry, plum and old leather. The finish brings crushed shells, lime and lemon.
