This is a heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, aged 9 years and sold in a 70cl bottle. It is made only from barley grown within 10 miles of the distillery in the 2012 harvest, and has a phenol level of 40PPM.
The whisky was matured in a combination of sherry and Sauternes casks, which set ripe fruit and a honeyed sweetness against the smoke.
On the nose come pineapple, orange zest and poached pear with a light earthy smoke. The palate adds honey, vanilla and sultanas over a salty, maritime edge, and the finish is long and warming with toasted oak and baking spices.
