Port Charlotte SC:01 is a heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, bottled at 55.2% ABV. The whisky spent more than seven years in American oak and sherry casks, then 18 months finishing in Sauternes wine casks.
The Port Charlotte name is a tribute to the men who worked at the Lochindaal Distillery, which stood on the shore of Loch Indaal two miles south of Bruichladdich and distilled whisky from 1829 to 1929.
The nose is layered, with blossom, pickled peaches, dried apricots, peat smoke, toasted oak, vanilla and caramel. The palate is oily and rich, with leather, tobacco and dark chocolate filled with lemon jelly. The finish is very long, salty and earthy, with lime and lemon.
