Chicken Cock Cotton Club Rye 20 Year is a limited edition Canadian rye whiskey, a tribute to the Chicken Cock brand, which was founded in Paris, Kentucky in 1856 and became the house whiskey at the Cotton Club in Harlem during Prohibition. It has a mash bill of 90% rye and 10% malted barley and spent 20 years in used bourbon barrels.
Released in December 2021 by Grain and Barrel Spirits, it was bottled at 50% (100 proof) in a replica apothecary-style bottle inside a collectible tin, modelled on the tins once used to smuggle the whiskey across the border. About 9,570 bottles were produced.
The nose offers butterscotch, marzipan, baked apple and grassy rye. The palate has vanilla, herbal rye spice, black pepper and molasses, and the finish is long and balanced.
