Crown Royal XO is a blended Canadian whisky made from more than 50 Crown Royal whiskies, bottled at 40% (80 proof). The blend of Canadian rye, corn and barley whiskies is finished in casks that previously held French cognac.
Crown Royal itself was created in 1939 by Sam Bronfman of the House of Seagram, to honour the visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada.
The nose offers dried fruit, caramel, vanilla and light oak. The palate brings rich toffee, dark and orchard fruit, baked apple, dried apricot and subtle rye spice over smooth oak. The finish is long, silky and warming, with lingering sweetness and a gentle cognac influence.
