This is a 46 year old Campbeltown single malt from Glen Scotia, bottled at 41.7% in a 70cl bottle. It was distilled on 28 December 1974 and is the oldest bottling the distillery has released. Only 150 bottles were filled.
The whisky first spent 36 years in bourbon casks that had previously held single malt. In 2011 the best casks were moved into first-fill bourbon casks, and it then finished for four years in a single first-fill Oloroso hogshead.
The nose has dried fruit, citrus zest, sweet toffee, sea air and fresh vanilla. The palate is silky, with brown sugar, caramel, baked apples, poached pears and orange zest. The finish is long and maritime, with sea salt, cinnamon and a touch of nutmeg.
