This is an 18 year old Speyside single malt from Glenfiddich, the distillery William Grant founded at Dufftown in 1887. Master Distiller Brian Kinsman selects up to 150 casks at a time, drawing on Spanish Oloroso sherry seasoned oak and American ex-bourbon casks.
The chosen casks are then married in small batches for a further three months before bottling at 40%.
On the nose are rich oak, baked apple, cinnamon, fig, walnut and honey, with sherry sweetness and a touch of black pepper. The palate brings toffee, dark chocolate, spiced fruitcake and dried apricot, with ginger and gentle oak tannins. The finish is long and warm, with oak, dried fruit, cinnamon and toffee.
