This is the second release in Highland Park's cask strength series, a limited single malt from the distillery on Orkney, bottled at 63.9%. It matured mainly in sherry casks of European and American oak, with a smaller part spent in ex-bourbon casks.
The nose has plenty of peat smoke, fragrant pear and light rose petal, then perhaps a little exotic coconut. The palate shows roasted notes like honeyed almonds, autumn fruit and sweet-salty liquorice, followed by oak. The finish is very long, with toasted oak and overripe fruit, turning drier with pepper and aniseed.
