Highland Park Cask Strength Release No. 3 is a single malt bottled straight from the cask at 64.1%, with no water added to bring the strength down.
It combines three types of cask: first-fill sherry-seasoned American and European oak, plus a smaller share of refill casks. A higher proportion of Orkney peated malt gives it an intensely smoky character.
The nose offers smouldering peat, lightly charred oak, honey-glazed lemons and crushed aniseed. On the palate come ripe mango, cloudy heather honey, whipped vanilla cream and a hint of violet. The finish is long, with pink grapefruit zest, sponge cake and heathery peat smoke.
