Kaiyo 'The Kuri' Chestnut Japanese Whisky (46%)

Kaiyo 'The Kuri' No. 1 is a Japanese malt whisky made from 100% malted barley and matured in Japanese chestnut (Kuri) wood. It belongs to the Ariake Wood Collection. The whisky spends seven years in first-fill Kuri barrels, then a three-month ocean voyage, during which the barrels move constantly and meet changing temperatures. It is bottled at 46% ABV and is not chill filtered. The colour is bright amber-gold. The nose has orange zest, lime, white pear, lavender and a little eucalyptus. The palate is silky, with vanilla shortbread, honey, persimmon, kiwi, clove and ground ginger. The finish is long, with ripe raspberry and a gentle, incense-like woodiness.
