Kujira Ryukyu 24 Year Old is a Japanese whisky made entirely from selected rice by Kumesen Shuzo in Okinawa, part of the Ryukyu Islands at the southern tip of Japan. This small batch release was matured in first fill bourbon barrels for more than 24 years.
Kumesen Shuzo has been operating since 1952 and is best known for Awamori. It began experimenting with whisky in different oak barrels in 1989. The warm island climate is said to shorten maturation, giving a stronger aroma and a bolder taste.
