This is a 29 year old Loch Lomond single malt, a limited edition made for the 150th Open Championship at St Andrews in 2022. It is bottled at 52.8% vol, in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky matured in American oak casks and was then finished in Mizunara oak, a Japanese species that takes around 200 years to mature fully and is demanding to work with. Master Distiller Michael Henry chose it for this release.
On the nose there are tropical fruits recalling banana and pineapple, wrapped in spice. The palate brings charred oak, caramel, apple, ginger and cinnamon, and the long finish recalls brown sugar with hints of cloves and sandalwood.
