Longrow – Peated (46%)

Longrow Peated is a Campbeltown single malt bottled at 46%. The name comes from a distillery of that name that closed in 1896; the brand is now owned by the Mitchell family, who run Springbank and make this whisky by double distillation. The malt is peated to 50 ppm. It was malted by hand and dried over a peat fire for a good two days and nights. The nose is sweet vanilla custard and toasted marshmallow, with a fine smoke that develops slowly in the background. On the palate it is balanced and round, with creamy vanilla and a touch of iodine, and the smoke moves across in waves. The finish is medium in length, with the smoke lingering.
