This is a 16 year old Macallan from 2002, bottled by the SMWS from a single first-fill bourbon cask, in a 70cl bottle. The cask yielded 227 bottles.
Bourbon influence is not often found in Macallan, which is mainly matured in sherry casks, so this single cask is a different take on the Speyside distillery.
The nose is sweet and spicy, with cinnamon, allspice, sponge cake, burnt vanilla cream and tangerine. The palate brings apricot, peach and mango alongside chocolate cake and vanilla cream, with lime zest and pepper. The finish is medium, with white and chilli pepper and an earthy note.
