Malt Duo is a Japanese blended malt that combines whisky from two distilleries, Mars and Chichibu, bottled at 53.5%. The two distilleries began exchanging new make in 2015 and let it mature at each other's sites. This version was matured at the Mars Shinshu distillery, so it includes Chichibu aged in Shinshu casks. A total of 10,918 bottles were filled.
The nose opens with some warmth, then pear, a little grass, herbal notes and milk chocolate. The palate has green apple, melon, sticky caramel, youthful nuttiness, chocolate and maple syrup. The finish is medium in length, with sweet maple and caramel turning spicy, then light oak tannins.
