Orphan Barrel Night Sage is a 25 year old blended Canadian whisky, bottled at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle by the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. It combines distillates from undisclosed distilleries in Ontario and Manitoba.
The whisky was matured in two kinds of oak: first-dump barrels that had held Canadian whisky once before, and multi-use barrels with several earlier fills. Together with Canada's long cold winters, this slowed the extraction of wood flavour over the 25 years.
Butterscotch and vanilla lead the nose, with toasted oak. The palate is soft, with brown sugar, toffee, walnut, fig and sultanas. The finish is warm, with dried fruit, vanilla and oak.
