Penelope Wheated is a four-grain straight bourbon from Penelope Bourbon of Bardstown, Kentucky, bottled at 95 proof (47.5%). It blends three mash bills of corn, wheat, rye and malted barley, with an emphasis on wheat.
The bourbon is aged for a minimum of 4 to 5 years in new charred American oak barrels.
The colour runs from warm gold to light amber. The nose has marshmallow, vanilla bean and sweet cornmeal with candied apple. On the palate come butterscotch, poached pear and light caramel, with a little rye spice. The finish is clean and of medium length, with sweet wheat, vanilla and cinnamon.
