Scarabus 10 Year Old is a single malt from an undisclosed Islay distillery, released by Hunter Laing. The name means 'rocky place' in Old Norse and refers to an area of Islay.
It matured for a decade in a combination of refill, ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks.
The nose is soft, phenolic peat smoke with a slightly bitter Lapsang Souchong note, tar, sea spray and toasted brioche, with lemon and honey sweetness behind. The palate runs from golden syrup and vanilla to peaty smoke and crushed peppercorns, with umami and floral freshness. The finish is of medium length.
