Springbank 21 Year Old is a Campbeltown single malt, here in its 2018 release and in a 70cl bottle. It was matured in a combination of 70% rum barrels and 30% ex-bourbon barrels.
The nose opens with heather and freshly mown grass, then honey, pear skin and wood shavings, with hints of butter, cheesecake, cream and digestive biscuit. On the palate, butterscotch, vanilla, sugar cane and molasses give way to apricots, peaches and paprika from the rum casks. The finish carries a soft smokiness, toffee apples, raisins and oat biscuits, with peppercorn, almonds and apricot jam.
