The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky in a 700ml bottle. It was launched in 1993 and uses a method devised by Malt Master David Stewart in 1982. 2018 marked its 25th anniversary.
The whisky spends at least 12 years in traditional whisky casks, American oak barrels and hogsheads, then moves to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry barrels for a further nine months. It then rests for three to four months in oak tuns so the casks can marry.
The nose is sweet, with fruit and sherry notes layered with honey and vanilla. The palate is smooth, with nutty sweetness, cinnamon spice and a gentle layer of sherry.
