The Balvenie – 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask (70cl, 43%)

The Balvenie Caribbean Cask is a 14 year old single malt from Scotland, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It is matured in traditional oak casks and then finished in casks that previously held Caribbean rum. For the finishing, Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE filled American oak casks with his own selection of West Indian rums. Once he judged them ready, the rum was emptied and the whisky went in for its final time in the wood. The result keeps the smooth, sweet character of The Balvenie, with toffee and a hint of fruit. The nose is rich, sweet toffee with crisp fruit. The palate is rounded, with vanilla and sweet oak, and the fruit builds with time. The finish is soft and lingering.
