The Dalmore King Alexander III is a Highland single malt from the distillery at Alness, north of Inverness, bottled at 40%. It commemorates 1263, when Colin of Kintail, Chieftain of Clan Mackenzie, saved King Alexander III from a charging stag, earning the clan its twelve-point Royal Stag emblem.
The whisky is finished in six casks: ex-bourbon barrels, Matusalem Oloroso sherry butts, Madeira drums, Sicilian Marsala barrels, Port pipes and French Cabernet Sauvignon barriques.
The nose is of Seville orange zest, tangerine, vanilla fudge and red berries. The palate has crème caramel, toasted almonds and citrus, moving to Christmas cake, ginger and mixed spice. The finish is moderately long, with cinnamon, nutmeg, dry oak and cocoa dust.
