The Glenlivet 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt labelled Double Oak, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. It is aged in American and European oak.
The malt is first matured in traditional oak, then spends time in American oak casks, which add notes of vanilla and its distinctive smoothness. The distillery stands near Ballindalloch in Moray, was founded in 1824 and draws its water from Josie's Well. Its stills are lantern shaped, with long, narrow necks.
It is described as smooth, balanced and fruity, and is best served neat.
