The Glenlivet 15 Year Old French Oak Reserve is a Speyside single malt, matured in American and European oak and then finished in French Limousin oak. It is bottled at 40% in a 75cl bottle.
Limousin oak, also used in Cognac production, is described as tight-grained and high in tannin. Here it adds spice, earthy depth and a slightly drier finish. The share of French oak is kept controlled so the Glenlivet character underneath stays in front. The whisky is made at Ballindalloch, using water from Josie's Well on the estate.
The nose is rich with vanilla, tropical fruit, light florals and warm spice. On the palate come nutmeg, cinnamon, apple, light citrus and honeyed grain. The finish is medium-long and warm, with a faint earthy linger.
