The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve is a Speyside single malt first released in 2014 as a tribute to George Smith, who in 1824 became the first licensed distiller in the Livet valley. It is bottled at 40% in a 750ml bottle.
Like Smith, it vats whisky from casks of varied ages. First-fill American oak ex-bourbon casks add creamy sweetness and vanilla, and the spirit comes from the distillery's lantern-shaped copper pot stills.
The nose is delicate citrus, sweet orange, orchard fruit and light florals. The palate is zesty orange, ripe pear, toffee apple and creamy vanilla, and the finish is long, with toffee, honey and buttery biscuit.
