The Macallan Classic Cut 2023 Edition is a single malt from the yearly Classic Cut series, named after the old distiller's practice of deciding the strength at which a whisky was reduced. It is bottled at a natural cask strength of 50.3% ABV, non-chill filtered and in natural colour.
The whisky is matured in a mix of ex-bourbon American oak and sherry-seasoned European oak casks. It is meant to be tried twice: neat, where fresh pear leads, and with a little water to bring it towards 40% ABV, where almond biscotti comes forward.
The nose offers pears and elderflower with light almonds and vanilla pod. The palate is sweet and creamy, with vanilla, juicy pear, lemon peel and delicate oak. The finish is medium, with sweet oak and almond biscotti.
