This is the Kentucky Derby 146 edition of Woodford Reserve, a commemorative 1 litre bottle released for the 2020 running at Churchill Downs. That year the Derby was postponed from May to September and run without spectators in the grandstands. The label shows a watercolour-style scene of thoroughbreds and jockeys passing the Twin Spires.
Inside is Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select, a Kentucky straight bourbon from the distillery in Versailles, Kentucky. It is triple distilled in copper pot stills, matured in new charred American oak and bottled at 45.2% (90.4 proof).
The nose brings dried fruit, vanilla and toasted oak, with hints of mint, orange and cocoa. On the palate are caramel, honey and dark chocolate over cinnamon, nutmeg and gentle rye spice. The finish is long and silky, with spice, toasted wood and a touch of tobacco.
