This is the Kentucky Derby 147 edition of Woodford Reserve, the Official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby, released for the 2021 running at Churchill Downs. The 1 litre bottle carries a painterly label of thoroughbreds and jockeys in yellow and blue silks.
Inside is Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select, a Kentucky straight bourbon from the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, made in copper pot stills with triple distillation and bottled at 45.2% ABV (90.4 proof). It is matured in new charred American oak.
Rich golden amber in the glass, it has a nose of dried fruit, vanilla and toasted oak with hints of mint, orange and cocoa. The palate is rounded and full, with caramel, honey, dark chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg and gentle rye spice. The finish is long and silky, with lingering spice, toasted wood and a touch of tobacco.
