Glenfoyle Distillery was a Scotch whisky distillery located near the village of Gargunnock, Stirlingshire, in the Highland region of Scotland. Its founding date is not recorded in surviving sources, and it ceased production and was demolished in 1923. Glenfoyle is one of Scotland's more obscure lost distilleries, known today mainly from a single entry in historical gazetteers rather than from any detailed operating record.
Glenfoyle stood close to Gargunnock, a small village on the Carse of Stirling near the Highland Boundary Fault. No detailed contemporary accounts of the distillery's founding, ownership, production methods, or output appear to have survived into modern whisky reference literature, and standard distillery histories do not record who built it or when. What can be established is that it had gone out of production by 1923, placing its closure within the broader wave of small Scottish distillery failures that followed the Pattison crash of 1898, the disruption of the First World War, and rising duty and licensing costs in the early 20th century, all of which squeezed marginal producers out of business.
Glenfoyle closed in 1923 and its buildings were subsequently demolished, leaving little physical or documentary trace on the ground near Gargunnock. No independently bottled casks or well-known vintage releases attributed to Glenfoyle are recorded as circulating among collectors, and the distillery does not appear in the depth of detail that reference works afford to better-documented lost distilleries. It survives chiefly as a name in gazetteers of Scotland's closed distilleries, an example of how many small, short-lived operations from the Victorian and Edwardian eras of Scotch whisky have left behind little more than their name and approximate location.
Glenfoyle distillery is located at Near Gargunnock, Stirlingshire, Scotland.
Glenfoyle distillery is from Highland, scotland.
