Apoteker Riise Lakrids Shot is an 18% liquorice liqueur in a 70cl bottle. It honours Albert Heinrich Riise, who ran his pharmacy in Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas from 1838 to 1878. It is made on a base of premium vodka, blended with English liquorice, liquorice root powder and salmiak.
The nose combines the three flavourings with the vodka in a near-alchemical aroma. On the palate it opens with an old-fashioned taste of rusty nails, followed by generous English liquorice and a restrained touch of salmiak.
