Isaac Bowman Port Barrel Finished Bourbon is a Virginia straight bourbon from the A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Fredericksburg, bottled at 46% ABV in a 75cl-style 750ml format. It is named for Isaac Bowman, brother of Colonel Abraham Bowman, and launched in late 2017 as the permanent port-finished Bowman.
The bourbon spends three to six months in port barrels from wineries in Virginia and Portugal, made from American oak and French Limousin oak, and the finished barrels are then married together.
The nose is sweet vanilla and caramel with jammy plum, fig and cherry. The palate is velvety, with port wine, fruit jam, dark chocolate and spice, and the finish is long and warm with oak and dried fruit.
