Aberfeldy 12 Year Old is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky from the Aberfeldy distillery in the central Highlands, bottled at 40% in a 75cl bottle. It is matured for twelve years in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.
The distillery ferments for around 70 hours, longer than the usual 48 to 56, which is said to build the honey character of its house style. The sherry casks add dried fruit and a gentle spice.
The nose offers heather honey, dried apricot and ripe red apple. The palate is buttery, with vanilla, fudge and melon, then dried fruit, orange peel and warm spice. The finish is medium, with oak, a little smoke and spiced orange.
