Aberfeldy – 21 Year Old Argentinian Malbec Cask Finish (46%)

This is a 21-year-old Highland single malt from Aberfeldy, distilled on 14th November 2001. It matured for over two decades in a mix of re-fill barrels and hogsheads, then spent around eight months in French oak Malbec wine casks from the Finca Ambrosia single estate winery in Argentina. The Malbec casks bring blackberry, plum and black cherry, with cocoa powder, violet, leather and sweet tobacco spice behind them. The nose opens with sweet toasted cereal, sage and a hint of rosemary, then ripe strawberries with Highland honey and a sharp edge of blackcurrant. Floral rose and violet follow, with a little cinnamon, before a creamy vanilla finish.
