Aberlour 16 Year Old is a Speyside single malt made at Aberlour Distillery on the River Spey and bottled at 40% ABV.
It is matured for at least sixteen years in a combination of first-fill American oak casks that previously held bourbon and first-fill oloroso sherry casks. The American oak is associated with vanilla, honey and gentle spice, while the oloroso casks bring dried fruit, raisin and toffee.
The nose offers ripe orchard fruit, raisin, honeyed malt and a little cinnamon. On the palate come dried fruit, plum, butterscotch and baking spice, and the finish is warm, with soft spice and oak.
