Aberlour 16 Year is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 40% ABV in a 750ml bottle. The distillery was founded in 1879.
It is matured in sequence rather than in parallel: first in American oak barrels, then in Oloroso sherry butts, before the two are married. The spirit is twice distilled in pot stills with broad bases and swan-shaped necks.
The nose brings caramel, baked apple, hazelnut, toffee and raisin. The palate shows plum, toffee, dried date, cinnamon and nutmeg, with sherry-led dried fruit and almond. The finish is long and warming, with cinnamon, fruit and toasted oak.
