Abhainn Dearg – 10 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

This is a 10 year old single malt from Abhainn Dearg, a small, privately run distillery on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. It comes in a 70cl bottle at 46% ABV. The barley is grown on the distillery's Goathill Farm at Melbost, near Stornoway, and malted over a peat fire at the distillery, with the grain turned by hand. The distillery has its own peat land and uses specially designed stills based on the old illegal ones. Each bottle is filtered and filled by hand. Mark Tayburn founded the distillery in 2008. It was the first legal whisky distillery in the Outer Hebrides in almost two centuries.
