Abuelo 12 Year Old Añejo Gran Reserva (40%)

Abuelo 12 Year Old is an aged Panamanian rum bottled at 40% ABV. It is matured in hand-picked American oak casks and finished at a lower strength. Abuelo is a single estate rum: the distillery handles everything from the sugar cane fields to the bottling, with fermentation and distillation on its own stills and ageing in its own warehouses. The distillery sits in the valley of Pesé on the Azuero peninsula, where moderate rainfall, cold nights and humid days lead to a high angel's share of around 10% a year. The casks are topped up every second year with rum from other casks of the same batch. The nose is rounded and balanced, with vanilla, dried fruit, tobacco and chocolate. Cocoa, dried prunes, toasted oak and nuts follow on the palate, into an intense, full finish.
