Abuelo Centuria 'Reserva de la Familia' Solera 30 Year Old (40%)

This is an aged rum from Abuelo, made to mark the 100th anniversary of the Varela Hermanos distillery in 2008. It is a blend of special rums kept in the owning family's own stocks, and contains rum up to 30 years old. It is a single estate rum: the sugar cane is grown on the estate's own land, distilled in its own stills and aged in its own warehouses, in bourbon casks. The nose is thick and sticky, with molasses, syrup, vanilla, espresso, cedar and leather. The palate is sweet, rounded and fruity, with apple strudel, sultanas, nutmeg, cinnamon, melted vanilla ice cream, toasted brioche, demerara sugar and caramelised apples. The finish is medium in length, with prune, walnut and a hint of cardamom.
