Abuelo XV Napoleon is a 15 year old Panamanian rum, one of three bottlings in the XV Finish Collection. Each is given a finish in a cask that previously held another spirit, and here that cask is Cognac.
It is made by Varela Hermanos as a single estate rum: the sugar cane is grown on the estate's own fields, distilled in its own column stills and aged in ex-bourbon casks before the Cognac finish.
The nose is subdued, with Cognac notes and a spicy dryness from the cask. The palate is vinous, creamy and sweet, with cream caramel against the spice. The finish is medium, with deep cask notes giving way to light orange and leather.
