Abuelo XV Tawny is a 15-year-old aged rum from Panama, made by Varela Hermanos in Pesé. It is one of three bottlings in the XV Finish Collection, each aged 15 years and finished in a cask previously used for another spirit; Tawny takes its name from tawny port from Portugal. The rum is made from sugar cane grown on the estate's own fields, distilled in the estate's own column stills and aged in ex-bourbon barrels in the estate's own warehouses. The nose has clear tawny port notes with vanilla and orange. The palate brings port spice, then classic Abuelo notes of tobacco, orange, vanilla and leather. The finish is long and creamy, with port and rum alternating in waves.
