Ailsa Bay Release 1.2 Sweet Smoke is a peated Lowland single malt, bottled at 48.9%. It replaces the version released in 2016 and is both peatier and sweeter than its predecessor, with the peat measure at 022 PPPM and the sweetness at 019 SPPM. The spirit is micro-matured: it spends six to nine months in smaller-than-average ex-bourbon casks, then moves to virgin, first-fill and refill American oak casks for several years. The nose is sweet and peaty, with crisp earthy smoke, vanilla, light caramel and smoked bacon. The palate is full, with peat leading before fruity sweetness restores the balance. The finish is medium, with wood smoke and warm embers.
