Ampersand Malus is a blend of 51% rye whiskey and 49% Calvados, the French apple brandy from Normandy. It is bottled at 46% ABV in a decanter-style bottle.
Pairing American rye with apple brandy gives it an orchard character, with apple, baking spice and toasted oak running through it. It is not a flavoured whiskey.
On the nose there is ripe red apple, cinnamon, fresh oak and a hint of nutmeg. The palate brings juicy apple and pear with rye spice, caramel and charred wood, and the finish is long and warming, with sweet orchard fruit and a peppery fade.
