Amrut – Peated Single Malt Cask Strength (75cl, 62.8%)

This is Amrut Peated Single Malt, an Indian whisky bottled at a cask strength of 62.8% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It is made with peated Scottish barley at around 23 ppm, then distilled and matured in the heat of Bangalore, where the whisky ages for four to five years. The temperature swings and high strength shape its fiery, spicy and strongly peaty style. On the nose there is gristy smoked barley, kippers with salted butter and a peppery bite. The palate starts youthful, turns intensely malty, then moves to drier oak. The finish is soft and delicate, with gentle peat, unsugared medium roast coffee, liquorice and molassed sugar.
