Arbikie Highland Estate Rye is the first release from a family-owned farm on the east coast of Angus, bottled at 46% ABV. It is described as the first rye whisky released in Scotland in over 100 years, and fewer than 1,000 bottles were filled.
The whisky spent three years in first-fill American oak casks, followed by a shorter finish in PX casks. It was distilled in 2015.
The nose is spiced orange with paprika, burnt orange peel and clove. The palate has orange marmalade, a little pepper, honey and maple syrup. The finish is medium in length, sweet and then spicy, with some tannin from the fresh casks.
