Ardbeg – 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Whisky (70cl, 46%)

Ardbeg 10 Year Old is an Islay single malt from the distillery on the island's most southerly part. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, non-chill filtered, and was named World Whisky of the Year in 2008. The malt is heavily peated, fermented in Oregon pine washbacks and matured mainly in first and second fill ex-bourbon casks. The distillery's position close to the sea gives the whisky a salty, iodine character. It is described as intense and smoky with nuances of sea spray, the peat giving way to the natural sweetness of the malt.
