This is a 17 year old Islay single malt from Ardbeg, recreating an expression first released in 1997, after the distillery reopened. Master Distiller Dr Bill Lumsden oversaw the recreation, and it is bottled at 40%, as the original was.
The peat is present but with a delicate touch. The nose is fresh and restrained, with pine resin, sea spray and lavender soap, and a flinty minerality that appears when water is added.
The palate is creamy, with aniseed toffee, café latte and gentle antiseptic notes, leading to a finish of chewy oak, cocoa powder and tar.
