Ardbeg An Oa is a heavily peated Islay single malt from the distillery founded in 1815 by John McDougall, in a 70cl bottle. It is matured in three kinds of cask: French oak, toasted ex-bourbon oak and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. It is bottled without chill-filtering.
The nose is intense and elegant, with smoke and peat opening to peach, banana, star anise and citrus peel, over a marine background of seaweed. The palate is deep and smoky, with chocolate, lime, aniseed, tea leaves and cigar. The finish is very persistent, with dense peat notes.
