This is the second edition in the Ardbeg Anthology collection, a 14-year-old single malt aged in a marriage of Madeira casks and Ardbeg bourbon casks. It is bottled at 46%.
The Madeira influence runs through the whisky, setting peat against sweet, syrupy sponge pudding and tropical baked fruit, with cedarwood and camphor. The colour is pure gold.
The nose is sweet and fruity, with baked banana bread, treacle and burning cedarwood. The palate brings lime, sweet peaches, aniseed, creosote and nutmeg alongside peat smoke. The finish is long and smoky, with menthol, clove and camphor.
