Ardbeg Blaaack is a peated Islay single malt released in 2020 for the twentieth anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee, in a 70cl bottle. It comes in opaque black glass rather than the green glass of the usual Ardbeg bottle.
The whisky was matured in Pinot Noir wine casks from New Zealand, and the name nods to that country's sheep. It is bottled at 46%, non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
The nose is red berry fruit and a soft floral lift over peat smoke, with vanilla, cherry and a faint herbal note. The palate is sweet and fruity, with red fruit, cherry, firm peat smoke, dark chocolate and fine tannin. The finish is long, with smoke, red fruit and dry ash.
