Ardbeg Corryvreckan is a cask-strength Islay single malt from Ardbeg Distillery, in a 75cl bottle at 57.1% ABV. It is named for the Corryvreckan whirlpool between Islay and Jura.
The whisky is matured in ex-bourbon American oak and new French oak casks. It began as a limited release for the Ardbeg Committee and joined the core range in 2009.
The nose brings tar, creosote, linseed oil, waxy dark chocolate and blackcurrant, with brine, seaweed and smoky bacon once water is added. The palate is deep, peppery and chewy, with dark fruit, star anise and hickory. The finish is long, with tarry coffee, cherries and treacle.
